National Research Nuclear University Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI)

The National Research Nuclear University Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI) traces its roots to the Moscow Mechanical Institute of Ammunition which was founded in 1942. This university was the joint effort of leading Russian scientists including the head of the Soviet Atomic Project, Igor Kurchatov, who played an important role in the foundation and establishment of this esteemed university. In 1954, the university had gone significant changes and was renamed to  Moscow Engineering Physics Institute.  Since then, MEPhI has remained at the forefront of nuclear science and engineering, continuing to uphold its legacy of excellence and innovation in pursuit of advancing scientific knowledge and technological breakthroughs.

  • The  Moscow Engineering Physics Institute was established in the year 1942.  
  • This prestigious university produced six Nobel prize winners in its due course of history who have worked there, namely, Nikolay Basov, Andrei Sakharov, Nikolay Semenov, Igor Tamm, Ilya Frank, and Pavel Cherenkov.
