Northern Arctic Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov is a federal university that was laid down in 2010 by the RF President Dmitry Medvedev’s Decree dd. 8 June 2010. The university was restructured in 2011 by merging several state-owned high and vocational schools – M.V. Lomonosov Pomor State University, Emperor Peter I Forestry Engineering College in Arkhangelsk, Severodvinsk Technical College – and renamed into M.V. Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University.

The university boasts a diverse international student body with more than 20,000 students currently pursuing their higher education at the Northern Artic Federal University. This diverse student body enriches the academic environment, fostering cross-cultural exchange and collaboration. As NArFU continues to grow and evolve, it remains committed to its mission of providing innovative educational opportunities and driving research excellence in support of the Arctic's sustainable development and the advancement of knowledge on a global scale.
